Concrete blocks in the United States building industry are also referred to as cement blocks, concrete blocks, cinder blocks, foundation blocks, and concrete masonry units. A concrete block is a big rectangular brick used for construction.

It is manufactured from cast concrete. Portland cement and aggregates like fine gravel and sand are used for high density blocks; whereas the low density blocks usually use industrial wastes as aggregate. This industrial waste includes fly ash, and it is referred to as a cinder block.Concrete building materials are used for a variety of projects such as homes, institutions, brick patios, and retention walls in a number of shapes, sizes and textures.
