What is FRP
Glass fiber reinforced plastic materials:
Firstly I should say is: glass fiber reinforced plastic instead of glass, not steel, but a fiber-reinforced plastic, in the professional terminology, the glass fiber reinforced plastic composite material known as (full name is the fiber-reinforced resin-based composite materials). Fiber-reinforced plastics, composed of two parts: one is called the matrix, that is, resin or plastic, the other part is to enhance the material, the overwhelming majority in most cases, is to use fiber to enhance. Hit most simple analogy, we often add in the cement concrete inside steel, used to improve the performance of concrete, that concrete is equivalent to the matrix, while the inside is to enhance material reinforced. The reinforced plastic used in raw materials and reinforced concrete are different.
Here start with some brief reinforced material, in practical applications, there are a variety of fibers have been used to enhance plastics, such as glass fiber, carbon fiber, Fang Lun fiber, metal fibers, etc., are used most widely, most economical and most practical is the glass fiber , other usage is rare, and costly.
Speaking of glass fiber, some people think of glass, that we usually use the glass is very brittle, the performance is poor, a knock on the pieces. For our use of glass, its performance is like that. However, if the glass melted in a very thin post-tensioned wire (diameter :0.5-30um, the equivalent of a human hair so fine), its performance is completely changed, and became very high levels, and very easy to bend, if it is and iron and steel contrast, its strength even better than steel. Therefore, the use of glass fiber reinforced plastic for its performance can be close to or above the steel.
Variety of substrate materials, more broadly speaking, belonged to the plastic in this major categories. However, we refer to the basic materials and glass fiber reinforced plastics in general not the same, they are more suitable for glass fiber reinforced matrix material.
Commonly used substrate materials for glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester resin, epoxy resin, phenolic resin, vinyl resin, specifically to do with what kind of glass fiber reinforced matrix, based on the product features, applications, prices and costs, and many decisions. Of course, the overwhelming majority of glass fiber reinforced plastic products, no special requirements (special anti-corrosion requirements, except the heat required), have adopted unsaturated polyester resin as matrix.
Glass fiber reinforced plastic used in unsaturated polyester resins, are also divided into a variety of grades, the different grades of unsaturated polyester resins and their components are also different, so out of product performance are also some differences.
