A track saw has the ability to make perfectly straight, precise cuts with ease. The pivotal component of a track saw is the metal track that helps guide the saw along a straight and accurate path as the operator makes the cut. The track is placed on the surface to be cut and lined up with the exact line that is to be followed. Track saws can be used to create straight cuts whether they are at a right angle to the surface or a bevel, and reduce or eliminate the splintering that is common when cutting certain materials with other types of hand saws.
One of the benefits of a track saw over a table saw is its portability. Many construction professionals and woodworkers have long turned to stationary table saws for their sheer power and capability of making very smooth cuts. With a track saw, the saw and track can be carried to the location of the materials, eliminating the need to transport materials to the location of a larger stationary piece of equipment such as a table saw. The ability to use a track saw on site can save time and reduce worker fatigue.
Track saws are available with tracks of differing lengths. The tracks in most models can be connected end to end to create tracks of customized lengths, versatility that makes them ideal for a variety of jobs. The bottom of the track will typically be equipped with strips of high friction material, which hold the track in place and eliminate the need to secure the track by clamping or another method in most cases. On certain track saws, this high friction material may need to be trimmed along the length of the track prior to the first use.
