Pipe benders are, as the name suggests, devices that bend pipes. The process itself might be done manually or it can be sorted out via a machine.

When bending pipes, there are a few things to keep in mind. Prior to finding the correct machine for the process, it is important to measure the pipe. Unlike a tube, a pipe is measured by its inside diameter (I.D.). Vernier calipers are used to take such measurements.

Ram Style, Rotary Draw, Mandrel Bending and Ring Roll Benders are just some of the different types pipe bending tools. The first is deemed to be one of the cheaper types. According to this style, the two ends of a pipe is held firmly as a ram touches the middle and presses it back. The Rotary Draw Bender consists of two tools or die sets. One die is structured like the end-product shape while the other die presses the pipe into that shape. Mandrel Benders aim to ensure that the basic structure of the pipe is maintained. A tool is placed within the pipe which retains the overall radius of the pipe.

Lastly, Ring Roll Benders alter pipes to form large circumferences. This equipment consists of three rolls. They roll the pipe through all three points while the top roll presses down on the other two to create the curved shape.

The material itself is also vital to bending. Pipes must be of a decent quality to avoid breakages. Material grade also plays a part in the bending process and thus, must be verified through the supplier.
