Dewalt Cordless Drills Review - Do They Live Up to the Hype?
How do Dewalt Cordless Drills compare with Milwaukee, Bosch and other top ones? Learn the truth before you spend a dime:
Voltage sizes
First of all, they offer a 12, 14.4 and 18v--pretty standard. Here is a short description and verdict on each:
12v
Price
They offer 4 versions of this voltage number, ranging in price from $120 to $180. For the sake of time here are the specs for their top of the line model (they are all pretty similar):
Power
This one goes up to 1450 RPMs... pretty respectable. But the real shocker is the 290 unit watts of power this Dewalt Cordless Drill produces. This is UNHEARD of for a machine this size
Weight
It's almost 4 lbs... which is quite heavy for a 12v. but it's tiny enough that it's still quite nimble... and it's not that hard on the arms if you are going to be using it all day.
VERDICT
This is an awesome machine for industrial projects... but it's probably overkill for small projects.
14.4v
Price
This one is slightly on the expensive side-it's around $250-it's worth it. Here's why:
Power
This one goes up to 1400 RPM... which is actually slightly lower than the 12v... but it produces 335 watts which makes up for it. Oh yeah-and it has 400 lbs of torque-VERY IMPRESSIVE for a 14.4volt model.
VERDICT
Again this Dewalt is purely an industrial machine... it's got awesome power and durability but there's no reason to spend the money if you just need light projects done.
18v
Power
This one packs 380 unit watts of power... it's relatively similar to the other-just more powerful.
VERDICT
All the Dewalt Cordless Drills are just for commercial use--but if you need heavy duty work done, it's one of the better machines out there.
