The monthly overhead of maintaining an ice rink can be costly, especially if your ice rink is not one that is owned or sponsored by a big investor. The daily electricity used just for the maintenance of the ice can be quite expensive - unless you have your own source of power like solar or wind.
To offset the large overhead cost, make use of your wall space and ice space to put up advertisements from other establishments. Advertise your available ad space by sending out brochures to local businesses. You can also ask major ice skating equipment and accessories suppliers and manufacturers if they would like to advertise at your rink.
Here are some basic tips to guide you when creating your brochure.
Tips for Promoting Ice Rink Ad Spaces with Brochures
1. Include a map of the rink's location and the area your rink services. How far away do the people who come to skate come from? What type of people will be seeing the ad? Give a brief description of the normal crowd in your rink.
2. Add a layout or floor plan of the rink and the area where the ad spaces are. Put indications on the floor plan exactly where the spaces are.
3. Include pictures of the ad spaces. Show how they may look to a viewer and from the point of view of someone watching skaters. Include pictures that show where the ads on the Zamboni will go and how they will look like in restrooms, locker rooms or dressing rooms, under the ice, in the waiting or watching area, banners hanging from the ceiling.
4. List the advantages of advertising at your rink. Who will see the ads? You can add a note for each ad location about who the ads will be most visible to. For example, ads in the restroom will be seen by skaters, coaches, parents, and other patrons while those by the rink side will be more visible to the skaters.
5. Ad space cost and some basic details including basic price quotes for each location and the sizes of each ad space. Include also the advisable medium of advertisement to use in a certain location, like use vinyl for rink side spaces because they will be constantly exposed to the cold and moist surface of the ice.
