Your Guide to Explosion Proof Enclosure

There is always an explosive “fire triangle”: the Oxygen, the Ignition Source, and the Fuel. These three elements contained in the “fire triangle” are always required, to support the fire.

There is most important that the volume ratio of the fuel to the oxygen must be limited between the fuel’s explosive usual limits and the ignition source, which will release the required energy, to ignite the explosive fusion. By removing all these three elements, we will eliminate the possible explosion hazard.

The general method to eliminate all the ignition sources from the possible dangerous location is to employ an explosion proof enclosure. An enclosure that is certified international as explosion proof for a possible danger, must quite strong, to withstand all the inner pressure that may build up and could generate an explosion.

An explosion proof enclosure will need to be made properly, to expel the hot gases resulting after the procedure in a way that, the structure will be cooled under the dangerous ignition temperature, in case there is a dangerous gas in the installation.

All these explosive proof enclosures are generated either from some cast aluminum or some heavy cast steel and, to cool all the resulting gases the projected enclosures will require some large flanges that will need to be grounded to an end and a good tolerance.

The explosive proof enclosures along with the threaded covers will generate similar effect with the help of the long and narrow path that is through the threads. Once the hot gases from the potential inner explosion will cross all these long and narrow tubes, these things will free all the heat to the actual metal and the pressure is much reduced.

Don’t forget to torque the all cover bolts at the suggested value. Also, don’t forget that the projection surfaces have to be protected from the scratch all the time.

The spoiled surfaces or the improper torque will facilitate all the hot resulted gases to escape and even ignite, suppose we are managing an extremely explosive atmosphere outside the explosive proof enclosure.

All these explosion proof enclosures are generally present in each industry sub-domain, and each equipment will be listed and labeled for the general usage in a specific atmosphere as it is noted in the National Electrical Code or in the IEC Standards.
