The Ramset Viper tool has become the choice of many trades including acoustical ceiling contractors, electricians, low voltage contractors and many other trades who need a fast quite reliable tool to fasten to concrete decks. The tool is light weight and very quiet by comparison to some of the other tools on the market. The tool uses.27 caliber strip loads that advance automatically. All you need to to is place a new fastener in the end and fire.

The Ramset Viper requires an extension pole to fire. You can purchase fixed length poles for the tool but by far the best choice is a telescopic pole, in particular the Lagmaster plus which extends from 4' to 12' and has interchangeable plugs allowing you to install eye lags and other anchors from the floor as well. It is short enough to fit in a gang box, yet long enough to comfortably reach a 16' ceiling when extended.

Keep in mind, your Ramset Viper tool is only as good as the pins you fire. It seems like you can find pins and pre tied wires from many different sources these days. My experience has been, you get what you pay for. You can find very cheap pins that may work well in soft concrete, but as soon as you see harder concrete, they start to blow out and fail. Soon your success rate is only 7 out of 10. With success rates like that, they are not so cheap. Look for a quality pin like the SPC78 and SPC114 clips. These are ballistic point pins and guess what, they are still made in the USA!

Any powder actuated tool will require service and the Ramset Viper is no exception. Pistons are wear parts as are the return pawls so keep a couple on hand. You will want to clean the tool on a regular basis. The more often you clean it, the easier it will be. Every few days or 500-1,000 shots is a good place to start. The back end of the Ramset Viper tool is a little more complicated to service, not hard just different. If you are mechanically inclined, you may try cleaning out, otherwise, if you are shooting a ton of pins, your dealer should be willing to do it for you.

If you have had problems with overhead fastening to concrete with a powder tool in the past, I recommend giving the Ramset Viper a try. When coupled with a good quality pin and the right load, you will be very pleased with your ability to fasten to the concrete deck without a lift.
