Artificial Garden Grass: An Installation Guide

It's clear that within a very short span of time artificial garden grass has gained a lot of popularity. Many are replacing their traditional natural grass lawn with artificial grass turf. This is because of the wide array of benefits offered by synthetic turfs. The most notable advantages of having synthetic grass include: conservation of water, time and money. 1.      Digging: Before installing artificial garden grass, you will have to dig the area where you will install the turf; the digging should be done till the depth of three to four inches. If there is any watering system in that area, you will have to redirect it.

2.      Bender Board Installation: The bender board is mostly made of recycled materials; however, while buying, make sure that it is not damaged and completely water proof. It is best to install bender boards made from plastic. Install it along the entire border; this will ensure that the edges are tough enough to resist high traffic. You'll also come across wooden bender boards; but avoid using them as they are not water resistant and can break down easily.

 

3.      Installing the Artificial Garden Grass: A synthetic grass lawn is nothing but a large carpet that is to be rolled out on the area you want to install the lawn. Cut the turf using a sharp knife and cutter according to the dimension of the area. Usually, galvanized staples are used to fix the turf to the edges. Some also use U-shaped hooks; but, the galvanized staple is the better of option.

4.      Infill the grass: After the installation of the artificial garden grass, the next step is infilling the grasses to assist them in standing upright. SBR or Styrene-Butadiene Rubber is a traditional infill. SBR consists of rubber granules made from recycled tires of cars and bikes. The only problem with this infill is that it may come out; it can stick to the paws of pets and to the cloths or shoes of your kids. As a result, manufacturers have launched many alternative of SBR. Some of these alternatives are more eco friendly. You can also go for the non-infill synthetic turfs; they have more grass blades and a thatch layer working as the backing.

5.      Maintain The Garden: The synthetic lawns require minimum maintenance; but every step of the maintenance process must be done with care. If there's a stain or any resistant object gets stuck between the grasses, you must clean it carefully using a garden broom or brush. Rinse the lawn at least once in a month to preserve its sheen.
