Minnesota Vikings Waiving Randy Moss

Well that was short.  The Minnesota Vikings releasing of Randy Moss lasted about as long as a Hollywood marriage between young starlets.  Also the divorce was steep.  The Vikings had given up a third round draft choice.  From what I understand NFL teams treat draft choices like gold especially the premium type third and above choices.   So for the Vikings to give up on Randy Moss so quickly and for that price is ridiculous.  Reports are that his release is a Brad Childress move.   The general manager and owner Zygi Wilf were not consulted on this move.  Ouch.

It has been reported that on yahoo sports that Moss was a pain in the rear.  He was rude to a local restaurant who had bought food to the Vikings locker room after a practice, and has not given maximum effort during the games.  Specifically the last pass in the Green Bay game and the pass interference call on the Patriots that Moss could have still caught that pass.  But who knows.  There is no effort gauge.  But what I do know is that when Moss is on the field he does affect the way the opposition plays the Vikings.  On every play Moss is getting some type of double teamed or some combination of double and triple team.  This opens up the running game and other receivers.  There is no coincidence that Percy Harvin has been big plays from the slot position, which in part is due to the type of attention Moss is getting from the constant double teams.  It is no coincidence that Adrian Peterson is seeing a more seven men in the box than the usual eight and nine men in the box prior to Moss's arrival.  Moss's impact on games is beyond statistics.  The Vikings should also have known that they should get Moss engaged in the game early.  Throw the ball to Moss even when he's double teams.  Moss still has terrific leaping ability and can make those catches or draw pass interference penalties.  This usually scares the opposition into committing more attention to Moss to open other offense.   I don't think Greg Camarillo is going to do that for you, but he will thank the restaurant for the food.  

This latest move by Brad Childress will probably cost him his job, maybe before the end of the season.  His relationship with Brett Farve was chilly at best (no pun intended) and now this.  The players even the ones who weren't down with Moss's act knew how valuable he was. There is a very good chance a few more who were who already disliked Childress revolt and the Viking season turns further south into the abyss.  Childress is not worried, he has a contract extension, but he will and should take the blame.

Randy Moss does deserve some blame for his situation.  His press conference after the last game with the Vikings basically implied that he wishes he would have kept his mouth shut earlier this season when he was with the Patriots.  If he would have kept his mouth shut he could have been put some decent numbers, possibly get a championship ring and would be a free agent.  Somebody would have given him a good last big contract, based on his production.  Moss has ruined his goodwill he had earned with the Patriots over the previous three years.   Now with all this bad Randy behavior coming out again, he will more than likely be reduced to a T.O. type contract (Owens got with the Bengals) with a minimal base salary, loaded with incentives.
