Oilfield and gas drill bit keychains have been around since the late 1930's and have evolved a great deal. The original oil and gas keychain gifts were modeled after a bicone oil well drill bit. These miniature oilfield drill bits were hand machined from brass and then nickel and gold plated. Then in later years with the introduction of the tricone bit to the oil and gas drilling industries the oilfield keychain replicas were adapted to the new tricone version also.

 

Now some 60 years later it is possible to find many different types and styles of oilfield drill bit keychains. Many different styles of drill bits have now been introduced over the years to the drilling industry and it is possible the find keychain replicas of drill bits such as DTH hammer bits, PDC bits, and retrac bits. In addition to drill bits some companies even offer keychains modeled after oilfield elevators, blowout preventers, and even workover service rigs.

 

These oilfield keychains make wonderful oil and gas gifts for retirement, safety awards and promotional items that are certain to please everybody in the oil and gas industry from the roughneck all they was to oilfield executives. Prices vary from $8 for the cast pewter models all the way up to $70 for the hand-machined models. Many of the cast pewter models are even available gold plated. It is also possible to find some PDC drill bit keychains where diamonds can be inserted into the bit to represent the drilling teeth of the bit. Many options also exist for engraving company logos onto these miniature gold drill bits or "dog tags" which in turn would make great gifts for customers or giveaways at your favorite oilfield drilling convention.
