Useful Hardwood Flooring Cleaning Tips

The hardwood flooring adds warmth and beauty to your home for long time. For a start, maintaining hardwood floors requires several things like sweeping or vacuuming and moping to get rid of grit, sand or dirt. Where as the normal spillage and spots can be easily removed through damp cloth. But you need to use the nail polish remover or Vinegar with splash of water on a cloth to remove some tough blemishes like ink, oil, paint or cigarette makes. Remember to keep away your floor from the liquids. Once a while, it also requires the refinishing.

 

It is not a good idea to wet the floor or mop your floor with soaps, detergent, girasol or such things. They get sticky when dried and hence, it draws more dirt that repel. Also it leaves a residue that creates problems at the time of heavy cleaning or refinishing. These sustains can clean finish but it also destroys your wood.

Protecting Your Floors:

 

Your wooden floor can be damaged and discolored through direct sunlight. The sunlight will soften the tone of different species of hardwood to varying degrees. If possible, try to use sheer curtains. If you are going out for long period of time then pull close the curtain. Use good quality of mats and rugs to prevent dirt, sand, etc to settle in. Always lift the heavy stuff or use the rollers or load bearing legs and floor protector to avoid the scratching which also damages the floor and its finish permanently. Once in a blue moon, you should rearrange furniture, mats and rugs to make the floor ages evenly.

 

Make sure that you avoid walking with stiletto-style heels, spiked golf shoes or cleats or any sharp objects; as they might cause notches on your hardwood. Keep you pet's nails spick and span.

 

Repairing:

 

It can be easily taken care of minor damages with the help of finishing putty available in matching colors. While for the major damages, your hardwood flooring dealer will refer you to the professional who will replace the entire area with new flooring or replace individual boards.
