Using vehicle weighing pads is a useful and easy way of checking vehicle weights in order to comply with the law. They are light weight, portable, and can be used on any reasonably level surface (slopes are not suitable for these scales). Furthermore, they are nowadays accurate enough to be used by law enforcement agencies, and are increasingly used by private companies as a result. They are also used by manufacturers of vehicles to determine individual wheel, and axle weights, and can also be used to determine a vehicles centre's of gravity. They are usually used in pairs as a minimum, more usually in sets of four, but can be used singly to give an indication of a vehicle weight, using a build up pad on the other wheel of the same axle as it is essential to keep the axle as level as possible during the weighing process. The weighing indicator which is supplied with the pads usually has 4 separate inputs. In this way, it's possible to read the weight of each wheel, of each axle, and on a 2 axle vehicle, the total vehicle weight. On a multi axle vehicle, the weights of previously weighed axles are stored in memory whilst the others are being weighed. A total button will then print out the weights of all the axles, plus the total vehicle weight.
