The laser distance measuring device is a laser beam that can determine the distance from one location to another with extreme accuracy. Today it is being used for a variety of tasks such as measuring land saving surveyors a lot of headaches while offering them extreme precision. It is also being used in battle fields allowing the troops precise accuracy in locating targets. Another use is being found in carpentry work.

The laser is much easier to use than a tape measure. It is also more accurate. Jobs that previously required two people to measure can now be completed by one person. Most of these new devices also have the capability where a single laser beam serves a dual purpose. It does both the pointing as well as the measuring.

Most of the more common devices have a measuring distance of 100 feet to 600 feet. Devices for more specific needs, such as those for targets that the army uses, are available at a much greater measuring distance. Accuracy is the most important requirement when measuring. Some of these devices are available to be accurate within +/- 1/16 of an inch. Many of these lasers measure a distance by transmitting and receiving ultrasonic waves. This is done with the help of a laser pointer that locates the target area. There are presently a variety of laser distance measuring devices being used for different purposes. The varied uses also means there are various prices for the devices. Some of these are so inexpensive they are affordable for use in the home.

The laser measuring device is a technologically advanced device that will make life easier for those who have relied on the tape measure in the past. A laser measuring device will most likely be a common tool with even more uses in the near future.
