These days metal arch buildings are not only used for business purposes, but for home use as well. Those with a hobby or a passion for DIY will find that these standalone metal buildings are ideal areas to perfect their art, and thanks to the fact that most of the materials that are used to make them up are recycled, there's never been a better time to own one yourself.
The reason that metal arch buildings make such great workshops is because they're not combustible (unlike wood) and they won't rot in bad conditions (also unlike wood). Although they will rust if totally uncared for, all you need to do to prevent this from happening is paint them every couple of years (or sometimes even less frequently). The time that you'll put into maintaining a metal arch building is far less than the time you'll put into maintaining other kinds of building, so they're perfect for those of us who find themselves constantly busy.
The cheapest way to start is to get one of the many metal arch buildings kits that are currently available on the market. These kits are cheap, and 90% of the time they can be made entirely without any special expertise or tools, so they are by far the most cost-effective way of making a hobby/workshop.
Many people who build metal arch buildings on their property (at one time or another) think about whether they could turn them into something that is habitable. While most metal buildings are great when the weather is nice, as soon as it starts getting extremely hot or cold you're realise that they're not quite as comfortable as you though they were.
So can you turn a metal building into a liveable environment? The simple answer is "yes, you can". With the right insulation and materials, it isn't as difficult as it seems. The main things to remember to do are to block up any holes that could cause a draft or let rainwater in and to insulate (and add air conditioning if you live in a warm climate). While it would take a lot more work if you wanted to live in one of these metal buildings full-time, this small amount of work will make it so you can stay in them for as long as you want - whatever the weather.

Next to NAS Quonset Point was Camp Endicott at Davisville, home of the Naval Construction Battalions known as the Seabees.
