If you have a house located near a lake, a pond or any body of water, a deck is an expected feature. However, decks are not only popular in beach houses or lakeside houses even houses atop cliffs and hills have decks. A number of homeowners prefer decks because these provide them with an unobstructed view of their surroundings. This is probably why you have a deck in your house. Although it is all right to construct decks using concrete and stones, a wooden deck is still a remarkable sight. A cabin up in the mountains or by the lake is never complete without a wooden deck.

A wooden deck is made up of wooden planks fastened together by screws. Since a wooden deck is an external structure you will need a set of screws that will not only keep the planks in place but can withstand the harsh elements of the outside world. One of the best ways to keep the wooden planks secure is by fastening it using deck screws.

Deck screws are special screws designed for wooden decks. Deck screws are not like your utility screws because these are manufactured to withstand the harsh weather conditions.  These are usually coated with solutions that help prevent corrosion.

Moreover, these screws are very sharp and can go through wood with ease. The points are narrow and very sharp thus reducing the need for pilot drill holes. When using deck screws on soft wood like cedar the need for pilot holes is completely eliminated.

Lastly, deck screws are easy to put in but difficult to pull out. This feature is attributed to its one of a kind shank design. The screw thread is adjusted by degrees, thus smaller degrees means narrower threads and narrower threads means more threads along the shaft. More threads make it easier to drill the screw in and keep it in place.
