Storing your diamonds

When you aren't wearing your diamonds, store them in separate boxes and keep them away from your other studded ornaments. Diamonds can scratch other stones, like rubies, emeralds and sapphires.

Cleaning your diamonds

• A simple soap water mixture is a perfect solution to clean your stones. Use a soft bristled brush while cleaning the jewellery. A toothbrush, eyebrow brush or lipstick brush will also do.

• Soak the diamonds in lukewarm water with any ammonia-free detergent. This really helps in making the stones shine.

• Use a lint-free dry cloth to clean the diamonds. This will make sure the diamonds don't get scratched.

• Look out for industrial detergents or strong jewellery cleansers in the supermarket. Industrial detergent helps release the pent up dirt in the jewellery with ease. Follow the instructions of jewellery cleansers to the tee and don't use them beyond three months of purchase.

• A teaspoon of tamarind in warm water can also do the trick. Soak the jewels in warm tamarind water overnight; they will gleam like never before.

• You can also use the same solution used to clean windows and glass doors. They are usually ammonia-free and mild, as they are created for a glass surface.

• Using high frequency waves, there are now ultrasonic cleaners that do the job for you. Do extensive research on these machines before you invest in one and follow the step by step instructions carefully.

• While cleaning the stone, don't touch it directly with your hands. Hold it by its edges or by the metal fitting.Since our diamond engagement rings are special, they also need special care.

Some strict no-no's for your diamonds

• Don't expose your diamonds to chlorine or salt water. Chlorine and salt water can erode the diamonds and loosen its settings.

• Your creams and sun blocks are not for your diamond rings. Make sure you don't apply them to you jewellery. Dirt and grime can settle easily and oils secreted from the lotion are harmful for the stone.

• Don't expose your diamonds to strong household cleaning agents, like bleaches, as they are extremely harmful. These cleaners can change the colour of your diamond and affect the setting.

• Don't swim, exercise or carry out any strenuous physical activity with your diamonds. They don't need any more excitement in their lives! There is a risk of losing the diamond and tampering with its settings.

Every now and then, have your diamond jewellery taken to a jeweller for a full body check up. They can tighten the settings, check out the prongs and make sure the diamond has not, and will not, come undone in the future.
