It is one of very hard stones when pure - so hard that the pure form is used in floors, counters, paving and surface re-facing. Floors of tiles are one of the most common floors of UK and the limestone tiles are very common among the tiled ones.

The stone is counted among the most common stones used for different architectural purposes specially in North America and Europe type of continents. All types of building construction foundation also use the stone as a base material. Construction of Portland cement again uses the stone as a raw material. The limestone is used to further remove impurities from the molten iron. Quicklime and slaked lime are produced with the material as a chemical. The toothpaste companies also use limestone as an abrasive.
