Ultrasonic Liposuction vs. Zerona Laser Treatment

Ultrasonic liposuction and the Zerona fat burning laser treatment are two popular alternatives to traditional surgical fat removal. They each help you get rid of fat and avoid many of the downsides of conventional fat removal methods, but they each work in a different way. Here is a brief comparison of these two treatments. Ultrasonic Liposuction Ultrasonic liposuction, or UAL, is a type of liposuction-like procedure that employs ultrasonic waves to melt fat deposits into liquid. The first step in the process involves the injection of tumescent fluid into the patient. This fluid is a combination of anesthetic, epinephrine and salt water solution, intended to mix with the liquefied fat, making it easier to flush out of the body. Pros
UAL lets doctors treat areas that have larger deposits of fat and lets them remove a larger part of these deposits at once. Ultrasonic liposuction also tightens the skin around the treated area, leaving little or no excess, baggy or loose skin. Cons
Ultrasonic treatments involve a good deal of heat, so there is the risk of burns, blistering and other types of scarring. These don't happen often, especially with skilled surgeons, but the chance does exist. Another downside is the potential contraction of seroma, a disease that happens when the body tries to fill the space vacated by a large fat removal. Zerona The Zerona fat removal system uses a low level laser to remove fat and tone up the skin of the treated area, all without the use of surgery. Considered an experimental procedure in the past, the Zerona laser treatment was, after many pilot studies, approved officially by the FDA in 2008. Patients can expect to lose about 5-6 inches of fat from their target area after a few weeks of treatment. Pros
Zerona treatments require no surgical incisions and take up little or no recovery time. There is no need to wear compression garments and the fat loss last for months after the treatment. Cons
Some of the drawbacks of the Zerona laser treatment include the fact that there is no guarantee that the procedure will have any effects.
